Harriet Mills

Founder and CEO

In 2010, Harriet Mills had a young child, had been laid off from her job as a sales representative for Vietri, and was opening the doors to Wine and Design, Raleigh, N.C.’s first painting party studio. Mills was inspired to launch Wine & Design after going to Charleston, S.C. on a girls’ weekend and visiting a paint and sip studio there.

“I call it my brushstroke of luck,” Mills said. “It hit me that this concept of group painting for fun is a largely untapped business opportunity. I didn’t create a masterpiece painting on my Charleston trip, but I eventually created a master plan that would make this business take off."

Having previously worked in finance and special events, Maggie was considering pursuing an MBA when Wine & Design founder Harriet Mills persuaded her to join the company’s leadership team.

Thanks to Harriet’s unrelenting drive, innate business instincts, and marketing savvy, she and her team have grown Wine & Design to 77 franchise locations nationwide that offer everything from children’s parties to corporate team building events. Harriet focuses on marketing, product development and growth.

Harriet was honored with the Triangle Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award in 2016, and she has created a scholarship for high school graduates in her hometown of Whiteville, N.C. who study art or business in college. When Harriet’s not working, she enjoys escaping to the North Carolina coast with her husband and three children.
