Wine & Design Featured Artist

Wine & Design Christiansburg is proud of the wonderfully talented artists we have as part of our team. Our Featured Artist this month is Patricia Stroud.

Growing up in Houston, Texas as a daughter of a landscape oil painter and instructor, Patricia Stroud considers art studios as her first home. Art was a focus throughout her schooling by taking as many studio classes as possible while developing skills in hand drawing, realism, and dry medias such as color pencil, charcoal, and pastel. Her most fundamental art instructors included Randy Rankin, Carol Koenig, and of course her mother, Maria Stroud.  Patricia’s passion for the arts stretched beyond two dimensional visual media and also encompassed the built environment of architecture; following that through by earning a Bachelor of Environmental Design and Minor in Art & Architectural History from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture in 2009.

During college Patricia was employed at a stained glass studio and fell in love with the luminuous but fragile medium and years later picked up that passion again, becoming a premiere stained glass designer in Dallas/Fort Worth creating customized glass art pieces for hundreds of clients for private residences as well as places of worship. During this time, Patricia rediscovered painting through being an artist instructor at a Grapevine painting studio.

After moving to the New River Valley in early 2015 to live closer to family, Patricia became employed at the Christiansburg Wine and Design studio, making it her new home. She most enjoys painting landscapes, impressionistic flowers, and animals. Youth art education is important to her as it has been a guiding compass throughout her own life, and she loves teaching for birthday parties and Art Buzz Kids camps.

Outside of the Wine & Design studio you can find Patricia visiting art or science museums, attending tastings at local wineries or craft breweries, browsing the Blacksburg farmers market, playing board games, hiking the stunning trails of the Blue Ridge with her adventurous chocolate Labrador, or exploring the New River by canoe, kayak, or tube with her family.

You can meet Patricia in the Studio on most Monday and Tuesday evenings. She is great with children and is available for Birthday parties - ask for her when you schedule your party. Sign up for one of Patricia's classes and learn first hand why we love her so much.
